That’s how Dr. David Suarez describes his own story, and it’s the reason he understands yours. He knows what it’s like to hit bottom and decide to climb anyway. Now he spends his days helping people do exactly that with their health.
His story
- Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Born in Brooklyn, raised in Staten Island. Lifting weights since age ten, he trained himself from a skinny kid into a semi-professional football player and played for seven years.
- An electrician first.
He worked as an IBEW Local 3 electrical apprentice before entering medicine at twenty-six, so he knows what a hard day’s work feels like.
- 1999: dismissed from medical school.
He failed pharmacology and pediatric cardiology, was dismissed, and had two appeals denied. He wrote a 47-page appeal built on his own exercise research.
- The comeback.
He enrolled in a PhD program in exercise physiology and nutrition, reapplied, and graduated from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005.
- Surgeon.
He completed a general surgery residency in 2011 and a cosmetic surgery fellowship in 2012, became board-certified, and built a thriving practice.
- The turning point.
After losing both parents and finding his faith, he felt called to treat the whole person. In four weeks he walked away from $275,000 in booked surgeries. The practice closed in 2017.
- 2019: Pure Wellness Medical.
Two years later he opened Pure Wellness Medical to care for body, mind and spirit together: hormone optimization, peptide therapy, nutrition, regenerative medicine and faith.
- Today.
Selected for Nationwide Registries’ Top Doctors of America in 2023. Author of the Amazon best seller Making the Change and host of the Making the Change podcast. Still training. Still taking every member’s results personally.

Dr. David Suarez is a board-certified general surgeon (American Board of Osteopathic Surgery), fellowship-trained in cosmetic surgery, with additional certification in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (Worldlink Medical), functional medicine, peptide therapy and longevity medicine. He is the author of “Making the Change: Optimize Your Health, Mind, Body, and Soul” (Amazon, 2026), an Amazon best seller, and a contributing author to the #1 Amazon best-selling anthology “The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Successful Soul Professional.” He has trained with weights since 1980 and played semi-professional football. Pure Wellness Medical serves patients in every state except California and Nevada.
